Punjab wins National Junior Basketball title again after 29 years

Punjab Girls came on to beat Rajasthan 57-52 here for the 71st Junior National Basketball Championship, at the Basketball Complex Race course Road Indore under the aegis of Basketball federation of India.
In a dispatch from Indore,it has been learnt that there was great joy in the Punjab team ,coaches and the PBA officials who accompanied the team at Indore including Teja Singh Dhaliwal PBA Gen Sec. He said that it is a proud moment for Punjab to win Gold after 29 years though Punjab’s junior girls last won silver in 1998 and bronze in 2003. R S Gill (DGP) Retd and PBA president has appreciated the efforts of coaches of the team that Gold laurels have been brought back to Punjab. Yurinder Singh Hayer IPS(Retd), Sr Vice President of PBA and Parminder Singh Heer SP City, Ludhiana also an international Basketballer from Punjab also congratulated the team. Brij Bhushan Goyal, Avinish aggarwal,Parmjit Bhogal,Jagjit Singh all officials of Distt Basketball Association said that a befitting welcome awaits to Punjab team when they arrive back as a number of players are trained at Ludhiana Basketball Academy .Prof. Prabhjot Kaur, also a national level player, said that girls have shown their Punjabi grit. Davinderpal Singh Dhindsa, Manager of the team said that girls played a well coordinated team game.
Punjab started with a 13-4 lead within five minutes ended the first half leading 39-26 but Rajasthan in the 3rd quarter through reduced the lead to 1 points but a basket and a three Pointer from Karanveer kaur put Punjab again back in to the game before winning the match at 57-54 Manmeet kaur came up with 14 points and 11 rebounds along with Kanishka Dhir also contributing 14 points Kaniska Dheer a student of local Govt Girls College Ludhiana and a LBA trainee is the captain of the winning team.
